Silk Dual-Color Dice Towers Explained

If you've looked at WiiN Studio dice towers, you've seen color names like Pink Gold, Black Purple and Dreamy Blue Green. Those are dual-color silk finishes, and they look different from a plain one-color print. Here is what that means and what to expect when your tower arrives.

What is silk PLA?

PLA is one of the most common materials used for printed pieces. Silk PLA is a version with a glossy, satin-like sheen, so printed surfaces catch the light instead of looking flat. On a detailed sculpt, like the feathers on The Omen Owl or the scales on the Basilisk, that shine makes the details stand out.

What does dual-color mean?

Dual-color silk filament carries two colors in the same strand. As the tower is printed layer by layer, both colors end up on the surface. Which color you see depends on the angle you're looking from and how the piece was oriented while it printed. Turn a dual-color tower on the table and it shifts from one color to the other.

That's why every WiiN Studio dice tower listing says color placement changes with the viewing angle and the orientation of each print.

The ten colors

Made-to-order dice towers come in ten dual-color silk colors:

  • Red Gold
  • Black Purple
  • Red Blue
  • Blue Black
  • Black Gold
  • Black Green
  • Black Red
  • Pink Blue
  • Dreamy Blue Green
  • Pink Gold

The darker pairs, like Black Purple, Black Green and Black Red, suit gothic and undead sculpts such as The Bonewood or The Grave Sentinel. Brighter pairs like Pink Gold and Pink Blue make a dramatic contrast on monsters and skulls. You can see Pink Gold on The Gravejaw product photos.

Why no two towers look exactly alike

Because the two colors fall differently on every print, even two towers of the same design in the same color won't match exactly. The photos on each product page are examples. A made-to-order color may not be pictured on that exact sculpt. If you want to know exactly what you're getting, choose a Ready to Ship option: that's the photographed, in-stock piece.

Layer lines are normal

Printing builds a piece in thin layers, and you can see fine layer lines up close. They're part of the process, not a defect. On silk filament the lines often add to the shimmer as light moves across the surface.

Ready to Ship or Made to Order

  • Ready to Ship: the exact piece in the photos for that color. It's already made and ships right away.
  • Made to Order: printed in your chosen color and shipped within 3 business days, plus carrier shipping time.
