A dice tower does one simple job: you drop your dice in the top, they bounce through the inside, and they roll out into a tray at the bottom. That keeps rolls random, stops dice from flying off the table, and saves your miniatures from stray d20s. Beyond that, the right tower comes down to space, style and how you play. Here is what to look at.
1. Height and footprint
Start with where the tower will sit. A tall tower is a centerpiece. A low, compact tower tucks in beside a character sheet or behind a DM screen. Every WiiN Studio listing gives approximate dimensions, so you can compare before you buy.
Tall towers, about 8 in or more:
- Behold the Wizard: about 7.25 in wide × 6.5 in deep × 8 in tall
- The Omen Owl: about 6 × 6 × 8 in
- Obsidian Citadel: about 5.75 × 6.5 × 8 in
- Dragonbound Tower: about 6 × 5.5 × 8 in
- The Bonewood: about 4.75 × 5 × 8 in
- Basilisk: about 4 × 4.5 × 8.25 in, the narrowest of the tall towers
- Spiral of Fire: about 6.75 × 5.5 × 8.25 in
Low and compact, about 5 in tall or less:
- The Void Maw: about 4 × 6 × 3 in
- The Shadow Weaver: about 5 × 6.5 × 3.5 in
- The Fallen Archer: about 3.25 × 6 × 4 in
- The Gravejaw: about 4 × 7 × 4 in
- The Abyssal Watcher: about 5.5 × 5 × 5 in
- The Grave Sentinel: about 5 × 5 × 5 in
- The Infernal Warden: about 6 × 7.5 × 5 in
2. The catch tray
The tray is where you read the roll, so its shape matters as much as the tower. Some towers drop dice into an open tray at the base, like Spiral of Fire. Others build the tray into the sculpt: a skull's open jaw on The Gravejaw, twisted roots on The Bonewood, or a rocky ledge at the spider's feet on The Shadow Weaver. Look at the product photos with dice in the tray to see how much room there is.
3. Dice size
Most players use a standard polyhedral set. If you play with oversized or unusually shaped dice, check before you buy. WiiN Studio does not list a die-size spec on every tower, so email yas@wiinstudio.com with your dice before ordering. Dice are not included with the towers.
4. Theme
A dice tower is part of the table's look, so match it to the campaign or the player:
- Undead and dark fantasy: skull dice towers
- Dragons: dragon dice towers
- Monsters and horror: The Void Maw, The Abyssal Watcher, The Infernal Warden
- Magic and nature: Behold the Wizard, The Omen Owl
- Castles and gothic architecture: Obsidian Citadel
5. Material and finish
WiiN Studio towers are printed in fine layers. That allows detailed sculpts like feathers, scales and chains, and it means you'll see fine layer lines up close, which is normal for the process. The ten made-to-order colors use dual-color silk PLA, a glossy filament whose two colors shift with the viewing angle. Learn more in silk dual-color dice towers explained.
6. Ready to Ship or Made to Order
Most towers can be bought two ways. Ready to Ship is the exact photographed piece, already made, and it ships right away. Made to Order is printed in the color you pick and ships within 3 business days. Carrier shipping time is extra either way. If you need it fast, pick Ready to Ship. If you want a specific color, pick Made to Order.
Quick checklist
- Measure the space: tall showpiece or low and compact?
- Check the tray in the photos.
- Ask about fit if you use oversized dice.
- Match the theme to the player or campaign.
- Choose Ready to Ship for speed, Made to Order for color.
