Skull Dice Towers: How to Pick the Right One for Your Table

The Bonewood skull tree dice tower in a blue and purple silk finish, with skulls emerging from twisted bark

Skull dice towers are one of the easiest ways to bring a little dread to the table. Whether your group is heading into a crypt crawl, your necromancer needs a signature piece, or you just want something spooky on the shelf for Halloween, a skull tower does double duty as a game tool and a piece of dark decor.

If you're new to them: a dice tower is a small tabletop piece you drop your dice into. They tumble down through the inside and roll out into a catch tray, so every roll is fair and no dice end up under the couch. This guide walks through the skull and skeleton towers we make in small batches here at WiiN Studio in Las Vegas, and how to pick the right one. Prices come straight from each product page and were current when this post went up.

Quick picks

  • Best overall skull tower: The Gravejaw, a skull with a wide-open jaw and sculpted teeth that form the landing tray ($45).
  • Best for a tall centerpiece: The Bonewood, a haunted tree with skulls pushing out of twisted bark, about 8 in tall ($45).
  • Best compact gift: The Fallen Archer, a skull pierced by three arrows with a jaw-shaped catch tray ($39).
  • Best skeleton alternative: The Grave Sentinel, a hooded skeletal figure holding a sword ($42).

You can see all of them side by side in our Skull Dice Towers collection.

The Gravejaw: the classic skull roll

The Gravejaw is the most straightforward "skull dice tower" in the lineup, and that's exactly why people like it. You drop dice through the crown opening and they come out through a wide-open jaw, landing between rows of sculpted teeth. It sits low and long on the table, so it fits easily next to a character sheet or a DM screen without blocking anyone's view. If you want one tower that reads as "skull" from across the room, start here.

The Bonewood: a haunted tree with skulls in the bark

The Bonewood takes a different angle. Instead of one big skull, it's a twisted, haunted tree with skulls emerging from the bark, branches reaching up, and roots that form the dice tray. At about 8 in tall it's the tallest piece in this guide, which makes it a strong pick for a DM who wants a centerpiece, or for anyone running a cursed forest, a swamp, or a gothic horror campaign. It also looks right at home on a shelf next to gothic decor once game night is over.

The Fallen Archer: small, sharp and giftable

The Fallen Archer is a skull with three arrows rising from its back, sculpted bone details, and a jaw-shaped catch tray. It's the most compact tower here and the lowest price at $39, which makes it an easy gift for a ranger main, a new player, or anyone who doesn't have much table space.

The Grave Sentinel: if you want a whole skeleton

Not every skull fan wants just a skull. The Grave Sentinel is a hooded skeletal figure holding a sword, with a flowing cloak and a hand-framed catch area at the front. It's a great fit for undead-heavy campaigns, death domain clerics, or a DM who likes to put a guardian on the table when the party reaches the tomb.

How to choose between them

  • Table space: The Gravejaw and The Fallen Archer sit low, so they're easy to keep beside your sheet. The Bonewood is the tallest and works best as a centerpiece.
  • Budget: All four come in under $50, from $39 for The Fallen Archer to $45 for The Gravejaw and The Bonewood.
  • Color: Each tower is offered as the photographed ready-to-ship piece or made to order in one of ten dual-color silk colors, including Black Green, Black Purple, Red Gold, Pink Gold, Black Red, Black Gold, Blue Black, Pink Blue, Red Blue and Dreamy Blue Green. The silk finish shifts with the viewing angle, so no two pieces look exactly alike. For spooky tables, the darker pairs like Black Green, Black Purple and Black Red are a natural fit.

Good to know before you order

Ready to Ship means the exact photographed, in-stock piece in that selection. Made to Order towers are made in your chosen color and ship within 3 business days, with shipping time on top of that. Dice are not included with the towers. If you're ordering one as a Halloween or holiday gift, made to order leaves plenty of time, but ready-to-ship pieces go out fastest.

Pair it with some gothic decor

If the person you're shopping for loves the dark fantasy look beyond the game table, take a look at our Gothic Decor collection, which includes the Veil of Silence statue and the Sanctuary cathedral key holder. And if skulls aren't quite their style, the full Dice Towers collection has dragons, wizards, owls and more.

Every piece is made in small batches by WiiN Studio in Las Vegas, with a close eye on the finish and the small sculpted details that make a tower fun to look at between rolls.
